Everything You Need to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the person who quotes my project the same person who installs it?

Yes — that is the core of how we work. The craftsman who walks your home, measures every opening, and writes the estimate is on the job from installation day through the final walkthrough. No revolving-door sales reps. No handoffs to a crew you have never met.

What is altitude-conditioned glass and why does it matter in Colorado?

Sealed insulated glass units manufactured at lower elevations arrive in Colorado with internal pressure higher than the outside air — because Colorado sits 5,280 to 7,000+ feet above sea level, where atmospheric pressure is roughly 17–18% lower than at sea level. Without proper altitude conditioning or capillary tubes to equalize pressure, that differential bows the glass outward, stresses the seals, and causes premature failure — sometimes within three to five years. We only install products that are properly altitude-rated or altitude-conditioned for Colorado elevations. Most national window companies never mention this. It is the kind of technical detail that only shows up when your windows fail early.

Are hail-rated windows worth it in Colorado?

Colorado is the most hail-prone state in the country. For east and south-facing walls — and for homes in higher-elevation hail corridors — laminated glass adds real protection. Laminated glass also reduces noise transmission and improves security (the glass holds together when struck rather than shattering). The cost premium is modest, typically 15–25% over standard glass, and it can qualify you for homeowner’s insurance discounts. We recommend it for any exposed walls and will discuss it during your estimate.

What is the difference between vinyl and fiberglass windows for Colorado?

Vinyl is the best-value option. Modern vinyl with multi-chamber frames and altitude-rated glass performs well and costs significantly less than fiberglass. Fiberglass is the longevity leader — it does not warp under Colorado’s temperature swings, does not fade under intense UV, and holds paint better than vinyl. It costs more up front but tends to outlast vinyl by a decade or more. We often recommend mixing them: fiberglass on south and west exposures, vinyl on north and east. That is a defensible value play and we will explain the reasoning for your specific home.

Should I get triple-pane windows in Colorado?

For most Front Range homes, double-pane Low-E with argon fill performs nearly as well as triple-pane at significantly lower cost. Triple-pane earns its premium on west-facing walls with heavy afternoon sun, homes above 7,000 feet, large window walls facing the mountains, and passive-house or high-performance whole-home builds. We will tell you which is right for your home — we do not push triple-pane on every project.

What is Low-E glass?

Low-E (low-emissivity) is a microscopically thin metallic coating applied to the glass that reflects heat back to its source. In winter, it keeps interior heat inside. In summer, it reflects solar heat back outside. It does not darken the glass and is invisible to the eye. For Colorado’s combination of cold winters and intense sun, we typically recommend a soft-coat Low-E with a moderately low Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) — specific to the wall exposure of each opening.

My windows are foggy between the panes. What is happening?

That is seal failure — the airtight seal around the insulated glass unit has broken down, allowing moisture to enter between the panes. It is the most common window failure in Colorado, and our altitude pressure differentials accelerate it in products not properly conditioned for elevation. The IGU has to be replaced; a failed seal cannot be repaired. If your windows are still under warranty, the manufacturer covers the replacement. If they are out of warranty, we can often replace just the IGU rather than the full window — call us and we will diagnose.

Do I need a permit for window replacement in Colorado?

Like-for-like replacements in the same opening typically do not require a permit in most Colorado jurisdictions. Changing the size of the opening, adding egress windows, or any structural modifications almost always require one. Commercial work nearly always requires permits. We handle whatever is required at no extra charge and pull the necessary paperwork before the job starts.

Do you serve all of Colorado?

Yes. We are based in Colorado Springs and serve window and door projects statewide — from the Front Range through mountain communities, the Western Slope, and the Eastern Plains. Call or email with your address and project scope and we will confirm timing, travel, and logistics.

How long does the whole process take from first call to finished installation?

For most residential replacement projects, you can have a written quote in hand within a week of the consultation and installation scheduled 4–12 weeks later — with the window driven mostly by manufacturing lead time. Vinyl windows typically run 4–6 weeks. Fiberglass and wood-clad products run 6–10 weeks. Custom shapes, multi-slide door systems, and architectural products can run 10–20 weeks. We give you the real ship date at signing, not an optimistic version.

What if you find rot or damage when you remove the old windows?

We stop and show you. We provide a written change order with the cost and timeline for the additional repair. You decide whether to proceed before any additional work happens. No surprise charges. Hidden rot and water damage in window frames is common in older Colorado homes — it only becomes visible when the old window comes out — and we plan for it without overcharging when it does not happen.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Financing options are available for qualifying projects. We walk through the current options during your estimate so you can compare full project price, monthly-payment possibilities, and warranty details before making a decision. We do not pressure financing — it is an option, not a sales tactic.

How does the warranty work?

Every project carries two layers of coverage: the manufacturer warranty on the product itself (typically 20 years to limited lifetime on glass and frames depending on the brand) and our installation warranty on our workmanship. You call us for any issue — we diagnose it, determine which warranty applies, and coordinate the resolution. You do not have to navigate between us and the manufacturer. Full warranty documentation is provided at installation.

Is the warranty transferable if I sell my home?

Most manufacturer warranties are transferable once, with some restrictions. Our installation warranty transfers once to a new homeowner with written notification within 30 days of closing. This is a meaningful selling point — talk to us before you list the home.

Do I need to be home during installation?

No. Many homeowners prefer to be, but we can install with you out of the house if we have a way in — a code, a key, or a contractor lockbox. If you are comfortable leaving during the install, that is okay. We just need a point of contact and an in-person final walkthrough. For commercial work, we coordinate directly with property managers and tenants.

What is the best window for a west-facing wall in Colorado?

A fiberglass or composite frame that will not warp under heat cycling, with double-pane Low-E glass and a low Solar Heat Gain Coefficient. For very large openings or homes above 7,000 feet, triple-pane is worth the upgrade. For street-facing or hail-exposed walls, laminated glass adds protection. We make specific recommendations at the consultation based on your home’s exact exposure and elevation.

Do you work on commercial buildings?

Yes. We handle curtain walls, multi-family unit replacement, tenant improvements, and Energize Denver compliance projects. We coordinate tenant notification, scheduled access, unit-by-unit installation, and daily cleanup for occupied buildings throughout Colorado.

Are estimates really free?

Yes. No fees, no pressure, no today-only pricing. You get a written, itemized quote and the time to think about it. The quote is valid for 30 days. If we do not earn your business, we thank you for your time and move on.
